CU Buffs’ QB recruit Brock Berglund eyes starting job

by Aryan in Hockey | Posted on July 15th, 2010 | Comments Off

It’s easy to admire Brock Berglund’s enthusiasm, but it’s tough to see him accomplishing this particular goal.

Now that the Valor Christian quarterback has committed to attend the University of Colorado and play for coach Dan Hawkins or whomever might hold the job of head football coach in 2011, Berglund has set his sights on helping bring “the best class in 20 years” with him to Boulder.

Berglund, a life-long Buffs fan, committed to CU coaches late last month over offers from approximately 20 other schools. The other four at the top of his list were UCLA, Utah, Kansas and Duke.

Now he aims to convince other players to join him.

“I don’t think I’m going to limit myself to even the state,” Berglund said. “I’m going to go on Rivals and find the guys who are even interested in Colorado and I’m going to call them up and talk to them, and if CU is a fit for them, I want them to be at CU and be a Buff.

Markques Simas, a gifted but troubled wide receiver who had his scholarship revoked by Dan Hawkins on June 2, would like to transfer to San Diego State.

Scott’s former high school coach, Todd Therrien, told the Tampa Tribune he had not heard the news directly from Scott, but that running with the Bulls would be a natural fit for the ex-Buff.

by Aryan in Hockey | Posted on June 15th, 2010 | Comments Off

Colorado will be the dominant team in one sport when it moves to the Pac-10.

“We’re adding a new sport, skiing, for the first time,” Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott noted during Friday’s news conference at Folsom Field.

The CU Buffs will bring at least 22 national championships to the “conference of champions” when they leave the Big 12. Twelve of those banners are skiing titles.

CU athletics director Mike Bohn said increased revenue the athletic department is expecting to receive in the Pac-10 could lead to the return of baseball and the addition of women’s sports such as softball and lacrosse down the road.

by Aryan in Hockey | Posted on July 10th, 2009 | Comments Off

Shortly after the University of Denver hockey team captured the 2004 NCAA championship, Drew Shore left sticky notes at prime locations throughout his parents’ Cherry Hills home.

The 13-year-old’s scribbled notes weighed the pros and cons of moving to Canada to live with a host family in British Columbia to develop his hockey career in order to eventually play for the Pioneers. He moved, all right, and this fall the 18-year-old center will skate onto the ice at DU as the leading member of a family of hockey prodigies.
