NHL & Women Hockey Players From Ontario
The Roots of Ontario Hockey began in the1890s. Arthur Stanley, son of Lord Stanley, the Governor-General of Ontario, founded the Ontario Hockey Association in 1890. The OHA consisted of one league of senior men’s hockey teams from Ottawa, Kingston, Toronto, and London. In 1892 the junior-level was introduced.
Women started playing hockey in Ontario around the same time. It is reported that the first women’s hockey game took place in Ottawa in 1889 and the first recorded women’s game took place in 1892 in Barrie, Ontario.
